When this ranch house was expanded, the basement was dug a little deeper to include plenty of space on the lower level for family gatherings. The new room triples the original size of the old recreation area to make way for a bar, a pool table, and a comfortable conversation area.

To create extra headroom, part of the new area steps down about a foot. An alcove on one wall houses a 51-inch television screen that's topped with built-in shelves and cabinets.
