If you don't expect your current home to be your last one, you look at remodeling projects as investments that pay off in resale value. You may not need to look past your front door for a great return. A study commissioned by Therma-Tru Doors and conducted by NFO WorldGroup found that enhanced entries add as much as 6.6 percent to a home's perceived value. In the online study, one group of people looked at images of three homes with standard six-panel exterior doors, while the other group viewed images of homes featuring doors with decorative glass, sidelights, and transoms. The enhanced entry systems boosted the perceived value of each home—sometimes by as much as five times the cost of the entry system.
