Basement Flooring
Unless you've installed a plywood subfloor, or better yet a subfloor panel system, your basement floor is most likely a concrete slab. You can apply or install many kinds of flooring materials over concrete for an attractive, durable finish, assuming the floor is dry and level.
Carpet
The softness and warmth of carpet makes it ideal for basement living spaces because it cushions the hard concrete surface below. Installing carpet over concrete is easy—perimeter tack strips specifically for concrete hold the carpet in place. After you've solved basement dampness problems, you shouldn't have to worry about moisture getting trapped underneath. For extra protection, seal the concrete with urethane concrete sealer or concrete paint before installing carpet. Or try a membrane product. Be sure to choose a rubber pad—foam pads may deteriorate with prolonged exposure to humid conditions.
Ceramic Tile
Ceramic tile—available in many styles and colors—is durable, beautiful, and installs easily over concrete. One drawback of ceramic tile in a basement is that it tends to stay cool, especially during winter. Consider installing a radiant heat system beneath the flooring to maintain a warmer surface.

We are going to epoxy our basement floor. I am so excited to see how it turns out! B from St Clair Shores Michigan
