Kitchen Addition Planning

A thorough list of questions to ask before meeting with architects, designers, and others involved with your kitchen addition project

Considerations Before Starting Kitchen Additions

As you meet with architects, designers, government officials, subcontractors, and others about your kitchen remodeling project, be prepared to answer the questions below. Those you work with will certainly come up with more home remodeling questions, but knowing these answers will save time as you begin planning.

  • Who will design the kitchen? A Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD)? An architect? Another designer? Yourself?
  • What will be the style of the cabinetry?
  • What cabinet supplier will you use?
  • Will the plumbing wall be moved?
  • Are you adding appliances that will need 220-volt electrical service or any other special lines?
  • What electrical grounding will be necessary?
  • Will any walls be removed?
  • Do you want additional windows or skylights?
  • Are you hiring a lighting designer?
  • Do you want additional electric outlets?
