An early-1800s farmhouse in the Hudson River Valley offered itself as an ideal retreat for a Manhattan-dwelling couple with a fondness for vintage homes.

The renovation of this upstate New York weekend home started with a single idea--to enclose the screen porch. But as planning for that project got underway, it became apparent that the old roof had to go. Soon more home remodeling opportunities were revealed and a complete overhaul began.
