An Atlanta couple abandons their confined master bedroom for a bright and spacious attic bedroom suite.

Jostling for prime position at the single sink and mirror in their tiny bathroom was a daily struggle for Jill and Steve Edwards. "I would be getting ready, and he would cut in front of me to brush his teeth," Jill says. "We would dream about what it would be like to each have our own sink."

No strangers to remodeling, the couple had already undergone an extensive renovation of the main level of their 1940 house. But their pesky space problem still lingered in the master suite. With a baby on the way, they realized their home-including their battlefield of a master bath-had to expand. And they knew just how to do it. Taking the advice of their contractors, Jill and Steve decided to remodel their attic, which had a versatile high-pitched roofline, into a lofty retreat.
