Raising the Roof

The homeowners hired designer Brian Patterson to flesh out the attic's bones and beams to accommodate a new master bedroom suite. It includes a casual sitting area and a master bath with two sinks and a walk-in shower. "The attic roof had a steep pitch, making it ideal to build out a space that didn't feel cramped," Patterson says. "To incorporate a master sitting area, the front dormer was raised 4 feet, allowing ample headroom. Dormers were added to the side and rear of the house as well. The dormer at the right of the upper level was reconfigured to house the master bath shower."
