Finding Space for Mudrooms
4 Spots for Mudroom
Mudrooms come in many shapes and sizes, so finding a place to centralize and minimize clothing and accessory mayhem may be easier than you think.
1. Start by the door.
Your quest for a mudroom begins near your home's entryways. It's almost effortless to drop gear by the door and pick it up again when leaving, so it makes the most sense to position mudrooms in proximity to doors. This setup also confines dirty shoes and gear to one easy-to-clean area.
2. Use the small spaces.
Even tighter areas such as large closets, wide hallways, and ample foyers make fine candidates for entryway storage. Simply hanging some hooks or adding a foyer bench can be helpful. Devoting a single wall to shelving, cubbies, cabinets, or locker-style compartments also enhances storage and organization.
3. Look to the laundry room.
Another place for mudroom potential is in your laundry center. Because laundry centers are often located by an entryway and have high storage quotients and existing plumbing, they're a great complement to mudrooms.
4. Check the porch's potential.
Porches and sunrooms on the backs of older homes are good candidates for conversion to mudrooms because they're near the yard and garage and often close to a bathroom.
