Painting Home Exteriors

Tips for painting the exterior of your home.

Exterior House Painting

The only thing less fun than exterior house painting is doing it again in two years because you didn't paint it correctly the first time. These tips will help you make those hours of work worthwhile:

  • Choose a latex paint that is 100 percent acrylic. The acrylic will help the paint adhere to your home's surface, and the water-based latex will clean up easily with soap and water.
  • Paint in clear weather when the temperature is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • When you have used three-fourths of a can, stir up a new gallon and combine it with the paint in the used can by pouring paint back and forth a few times. This will help ensure a uniform color throughout.
  • Paint from the top down to prevent dripping paint on areas previously painted. Start with gutters and eaves if they will match the siding color. Finish up with trim and shutters.

Great tips thanks for sharing. I was lucky that the last time I needed parts of my house painted and I had to find painters, the guys at http://www.rainerpainting.com said something similar. Many times I've hired out or done it myself and never did I know this. If only I knew this 10 or so years ago.
