Here are a few questions that architects, contractors, government officials, and others will ask you about your remodeling project.
Questions You'll Be Asked
As you meet with architects, designers, government officials, contractors, subcontractors, and others, be prepared to answer the questions below. Those you work with will certainly come up with more questions, but knowing these answers will save time as you begin planning.
Your House and Its Occupants
- Style of your house?
- Year it was built?
- Size in square feet?
- Overall dimensions?
- Direction it faces?
- General type of construction: Brick? Wood frame? Other?
- Type of foundation?
- Type of windows?
- Type of roofing material?
- Type of siding?
- Is there a basement?
- How many people live in the house? Will that be changing in the foreseeable future?
- Do you entertain often? Does the house's present setup accommodate your entertaining requirements?
- Are the sizes of public spaces adequate?
- Do you desire more quiet or privacy?
- Does anyone in your house have special needs?
General Design Questions
- What are your favorite colors?
- Does the household gather for meals? What is the breakfast routine? What about dinner? Do you entertain?
- Do you have swatches of fabric, paint-color chips, or wallpaper samples that capture the look you desire? Do you need a place to display your collections?
