Vertical Blinds
Q: The patio doors in our family room have outdated vertical blinds. I am looking for an alternate treatment that will provide privacy and elegance. Any ideas?
A: Patio doors aren't always elegant, but that doesn't mean you can't dress them up in something more attractive than vertical blinds. Start with pinch-pleat draperies, including a full-width valance and a pair of stationary drapery panels for the ends. Next, a sheer curtain with a one-way draw (gathering at one end only) will add a semiprivate tone to the setting. If you need more privacy or want to control the daylight, add a retractable white liner behind the sheer, also with a one-way draw. Because the sheer and liner will hang close to the glass doors, the entire ensemble will have a depth of only about 5 inches and will offer elegance with plenty of function.
